Protecting yourself, as well as all those with you in your vehicle, requires that you always keep in mind the following key rules
General Recommendations
Fasten your seat belt, whether sitting in the front or the rear seats of a vehicle, as they can help prevent severe injuries in case of an accident
Check the pressure of your vehicle's tires, at least once a month and before any long trips
Verify that your vehicle's head and rear lights are fully functional at all times
Make sure to have a spare tire on hand and all the tools needed to change a punctured or flat tire
Always replace a worn or damaged tire, as the quality of tires is crucial to the performance and safety of your vehicle
Keep a fire extinguisher within reach inside your vehicle for use in emergencies
Ensure that there are no loose objects in your vehicle that can endanger the safety of passengers in case of a sudden stop or a car accident
Child Passenger Safety
Babies, up to the age of 1, should be secured in the back seat of the vehicle in a rear-facing infant seat
Children from the ages of 1 to 4 should be secured in the back seat of the vehicle in a forward-facing infant seat
Kids from the ages of 4 to 8 be should be properly restrained in the back seat of a vehicle in belt-positioning booster seats
The vehicle's doors should be locked whenever there are children on board
Windows should remain at the child safety levels
Children should keep their hands and other body parts inside the moving vehicle at all times
The passenger seat airbag should be switched off when seating a baby in the front seat of a two-seater vehicle
Children should never be left unsupervised in a vehicle
In case of a Car Accident
Dial the Lebanese Red Cross Emergency Toll Free line on 140
Stay calm and focused and inform the operator, in a clear voice, about the location and nature of the car accident
If you witness an injured person in a car accident, try to prevent the public from extracting the injured person from the vehicle until the ambulance arrives
If you had a strong car accident, but were not injured, it would be wise to visit the Emergency Room for a quick general check-up to rule out the possibility of suffering from undetected internal bleeding
